Simple Vanilla Butter Cookies

A simple butter cookie with a crisp texture and a hint of sweetness holds it’s shape well, and makes for a simply elegant treat.  Dress it up with some melted chocolate and fancy sprinkles!

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 cup softened butter

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350

Cream butter with powdered sugar until well incorporated.  Stir in vanilla.  Add the dry ingredients of flour, baking powder, and kosher salt and mix until combined.  Roll the dough out between two sheets of wax paper and use a cookie or biscuit cutter to create shapes.  Bake the cookies at 350 for about 8 minutes.  Do not over bake; you want to see just a hint of golden color at the bottom edges.  Allow cookies to cool on cookie sheet for 5-7 minutes before moving to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Optional: melt some chocolate of choice and dip cookies.  Add any sprinkles for fun!

Notes

Do not over bake.  These cookies should have just the slightest hint of color at the bottom edges when baked.

This recipe made 24 of the 2 inch star cookies pictured above.
